# Act I
**Sc. 1**
**[[Echalera]]'s day to day life.**
Lives in Garontor village.
Like most children, Echalera helped out however she could.
1) Echalera takes care of her two younger siblings (pet the cat) and her mother Carinila, who is has been suffering from illness for years.
2) Then Echalera also helps her mother, Carinila, in the stables, they had the fortune of learning to care for horses, through which, Echalera learned the basics of medicine (Echalera is a natural and is the best in the village). Carinila and Echalera, are the village's go-to for sickness and fevers. The village has grown to love and rely on these two for medical care. However.
Her father, Phelenos (Phabos) supplements paid work by sneaking into the woods at dusk, hunting the lord's game ([[Apys]] [[Varros]]).
**Sc.2**
**Set up the world, where are we, when?**
For years, Echalera, her father Phelenos, and elder brother Mattis, would skulk into the woods just before dawn to hunt, trap, and catch small animals. Everyone in the village has known this for sometime and are terrified for the consequences that may occur if they get caught. [[Apys]] is known as a twisted and sadistic man--whole family included, who frequently terrorize the valley.
According to rumor, Haldaea of house Chromasios ([[the-Dispossessed]]), the remaining heir to Garontor Castle, had been killed by [[Apys]] [[Varros]] after she refused to marry his son, or possibly she fled to the [[Southern-Empire]] under [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]]. The Chromasios clan was known as honorable and duty-bound just like house [[Dionicos]]. Should they provoke his wrath Garontor village knows hell would fall on them.
Because of this half the village wishes to exile the family, while the other half--barely resisting the demand,
only because of the good graces that Echalera and her mother Carinila bring with their medicine, as well as the veteran service that Phelenos has under his belt, Echalera has some as a skirmisher, as well as Mattis who is off acquiring it; they refuse to do it.
One day, a letter arrives for the family; it's from Mattis who's serving under General [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Garios]] [[Comnos]], the leader of the [[Western-Empire]].
Mattis writes,
> "I'm currently in [[Zeonica]], it's so peaceful here in the center of [[Calradia-Conti.]] far away from the frontiers, the city is amazing the wine here is too. I'm suppose to meet with another army in [[Lageta]] in 3 weeks time. [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Garios]] plans to take the fight to the Battanians. Maybe I could stop by Garontor, how long has it been now? Five years? I'll see if I can drop by in 1 week,
> love Mattis."
**Sc.3**
**Desires, conflicts, philosophy.**
Mattis
1) Mattis sees the poverty his family lives in and he has a **desire** to get them out of Garontor village, so Mattis sees military service as the only way to get his family out of Garontor village. But he's **conflicted**. He was taught that foreigners were savage and barbaric **(which was often a point of conflict between him and his father Phelenos)** but he's come to see they're not too different from himself, and he's seen what sieges and war leads into. (Rape, murder, torture, slavery.) Mattis' **philosophy**, he takes from his father. A man has to do what only *he* *can* do. What ever it takes, essentially.
Echalera
2) Echalera has always tried to be consistently fair and honest, whilst also empathetic towards those in need or in trouble in order to curve her families bad reputations. Echalera's **desire** to follow in her brother's foot steps, not only to see the world, but also to help get her family into better pastures. But she is **conflicted**, she feels she is needed at home to care for her two younger siblings and her mother. Echalera's **philosophy** is that she must be dependable and reliable.
Phelenos
3) Phelenos is not the best with people, he's perhaps too blunt or dismissive -- it's from his [[Battanian]] ways. He's also anti-[[Imperial]] superiority harkening to his [[Battanian]] roots. **(This creates a clash between him, Echalera and especially Mattis.)** When he brought Carinila to Garontor village they hated him and her for their foreign descendances and he could do little to change their mind despite having had served under the Chromasios banner. His wife got the brunt of it because of recent evens, and he couldn't help Carinila, she had to stand alone, all he was good at was warfare. Despite everything she loved him even though he had no land. So he made money how he could, through odd jobs here and there, but hunting made up the bulk of his revenue. Poaching is illegal in the Empire, like many other kingdoms, but it's all he can do to provide for his family. His **desire** is to provide for his family, but his **conflict** is that it simultaneously puts them in danger. His **philosophy**, a man has to do what only *he* *can* do. What ever it takes, essentially.
Carinila
4) When Phelenos returned to Garontor village with Carinila, an Aserai woman, the [[Imperial]] villages distrusted her and despised her heritage. The father of Haldaea around that time had just been killed by an Aserai javelin, leaving Blackheath, or Garontor castle to a young 4 year old Haldaea. Carinila used her knowledge of medicine and overall charm and honesty to win the [[Imperial]] people over through the years. Carinila's **desire** was for Mattis and Echalera to not have to go through what she did, so they had largely [[Imperial]] educations growing up in order for them to better blend in to the populace. But she is **conflicted**, because in doing so, she introduced them to [[Imperial]] propaganda and [[Imperial]] superiority over their barbarians neighbors. Carinila regrets this decision but dies before she can rectify her mistake. **(Mattis and Echalera will learn over the course of the story how their education was highly selective and propagandized. [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] will have a field day with it.)**
Milos and Elea are not important atm.
**Sc.4**
**End with call to adventure. or inciting Incident**
One morning, while Echalera slept in, Phelenos is out hunting at dusk when he is caught in the act by [[Apys]]' game wardens, Phelenos narrowly escapes capture but kills one of [[Apys]]' men in the escape. [[Apys]], getting ready to campaign on the [[Battanian]] frontier, has no time for this so he hires his buddies in the [[Hidden-Hand]] to kill the one responsible.
Phelenos returns home and tells Carinila and Echalera what happened. The [[Hidden-Hand]] arrive in Garontor village and threaten the villages. Saying if they don't turn over the one responsible before tomorrow they're going to start wrecking the place and commencing public lashings. The [[Hidden-Hand]] thugs leave. The head of the village tells regretfully tells Phelenos that they can't protect him anymore and they'll be forced to turn him over to the [[Hidden-Hand]]. He decides to turn himself in immediately to spare the village but Carinila and Echalera refuse to let him go instead opting to run somewhere peaceful--they decide to go to [[Zeonica]] where Mattis is.
They either sell or give away and sorrow what little they have of which they cannot carry. The headman of the village, the owner of the horse farm, offers one extra horse to the family--Phelenos says he can't afford it but the headman clarifies the horse is free, he planned on giving the horse to Echalera for all her hard work but now's the only time. They leave the village and the next day, as promised, the [[Hidden-Hand]] return. Discovering that Phelenos is heading for [[Zeonica]]--they pursue.
*Banter along the way maybe, as we get to know the characters (care about them before the parents die and kids kidnapped.)* Humor, use all different types. Dad-jokes, dark humor, puns, et cetera... they travel for 2 -3 days.
Finally, Carinila tells everyone to lie to Mattis about what happened back at Garontor,
Reasons: either Mattis may not take it well. Or someone may overhear, or she doesn't want him to worry. Maybe all three.
there's a bit of dispute but they all agree. They arrive in [[Zeonica]]. Cheerful mood, Mattis is happy but shocked to see them all there, so he asks why they're in town so far from home? Carinila tells him moving was long overdue. She and Phelenos had always planned to live in Neocorys but never made it because of Mattis being born and Phelenos still soldiering for Chromasios and much more.
They spend the evening at the local inn of [[Zeonica]].
"Salvo!" Someone calls out to Mattis, he turns:
Mattis is pulled outside by one of his superiors / subordinates for special military orders, [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Garios]] decided to shift the meeting point for Mattis' unit from [[Lageta]] to reinforce Onica Castle, they suspect, due to wall building activity at [[Poros]] and other intel, a war with [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] may be imminent.
> Mattis is relieved saying "Well that's good, now I won't need to be around that demon Apys [[Varros]]." "Well, actually..." the subordinate / superior chimes in, "Apys as usual disobeyed commands and decided his apatite for barbarism was far more important than following orders. So he wasn't going to at [[Lageta]]." Mattis asks sharply, "What do you mean?" "Didn't you hear? One of Apys' guys got killed, turned out it was a cousin of his. Amenon [[Varros]] I think his name was. Good riddance. [[Apys]] is furious, he's offering a massive reward for whoever brings in the poacher. 5,000 silver Denarii--that's more than five times my salary."
> Mattis, slowly questions "So... did they have a name? For the poacher I mean."
> "Phelenos, I believe." "Vale!" They call to each other before separating. The subordinate / superior leaves.
Mattis confronts his sick mother and father, they confess--Mattis--without missing a beat, tells them then that they need to flee to the [[Southern-Empire]], specifically Canterion. It'll be safer there. They agree. Phelenos suggest they he join them, but Mattis refuses. "I can't." he says. "Why not." they ask, "because I don't trus-" but before he can answer they're attacked by highway men, [[Galter]] and [[Radagos]] among them, out front of Onica village. They're hopelessly outmatched. Mattis, Echalera, and Phelenos take up arms but it's 3 vs. 16. Phelenos is killed and soon follows Carinila. Then the kids are taken, it's just Echalera and Mattis now.
A figure appears on [[Poros]]' horizon with a massive army behind her. One of her advisors, whispers in her ear, shaking their head, but -- down she swings her hand ordering riders to intervene. The thugs are put to flight in a flash and Echalera and Mattis are saved by Empress, [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] [[Pethros]].
# Act II
**Sc.1**
**Introduce Allies**
**[[Ira]]**
**[[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]]**
**[[Pharon]], [[Oros]]****
**and, Osarios [[the-Boar]]**
Next scene outside of Onica village. Echalera, Mattis stunned. Shocked at the sight of their dead parents.
[[Pharon]] gives his condolences.
[[Ira]] states to [[Pharon]] that in the presence of a queen, peasants should be kneeling. [[Pharon]] states that now is no time for formalities, now is the time for compassion.
"It's not about formalities." [[Oros]] says "they should kneel out of respect, in fact they should be grateful. It's not everyday a queen stops to help her subjects."
Mattis quietly jolts, "We're not her subjects..."
[[Oros]] returns, "well then who's subjects are you?" "the General's, [[Comnos]]." Mattis says. [[Oros]] fires, "Doesn't seem like it! You all were just being flogged and battered, and cut down in front of one his castles and his people didn't so much as bat an eye. You fool. You both should kneel and should gratitude for what we've done."
"What you've done! What have you done?" Mattis cries out,
[[Oros]] presses, "hold your tongue boy, or I'll cut it ou-"
"They didn't budge because you're here!" Mattis cries, "Unlike you all those men up there have been trained with discipline. You must look out for the lives of your brothers. If you all weren't here prepping to throw more lives away in yet another pointless war, my comrades would've been down here!"
[[Oros]], gets off his horse "why you little!"
[[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] "hold it. Archon, [[Pharon]] is right. Now is not the time for formalities."
Looking at Mattis, "I'm sorry, we came too late. We're here because I simply couldn't resist--seeing injustice play out in front of me, regardless of which side, I had an immediate urge to intervene, to cut down those thugs in armor and send them flight personally, but my advisors reasonably cautioned this and pulled me back from flying into action. If I did my army could be pulled into a trap they cautioned. But then I thought, what would my husband [[Arenicos]] do? And there was no question."
[[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] takes off her helmet, "this area is not safe, you two don't look like you can go far, we'll bring you both including your parents to [[Poros]], there you can rest up, heal, and give them a proper burial."
[[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] asks what it is they were doing in Onica? Echalera tells her they were running from Apys [[Varros]]' men. [[Pharon]] mocks Apys--calls Apys a dishonorable rat. [[Pharon]] goes onto say that Apys has only backed [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Garios]] in the civil war because [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Garios]] is the only one who would take him in. [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] doesn't trust him, and neither does [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Lucon]]. [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] asks why they were running to which Mattis explains. "... and now your two younger siblings have been taken. With the preparations being made, unfortunately I can't devote any resources to helping you recover them. However, I may know someone who can. In the tavern of [[Poros]] you may find Osarios, a former legionary for hire. He served Emperor [[Drosios]] Neretzes for 20 years before his death. Ever since all he's done is complain about Arenicos and his reforms. I'm pretty interested in getting him out of my hair. I should go now I have papers to stamp and orders to give."
Mattis and Echalera find Osarios in the tavern as [[Characters/Bannerlord/Imperials/Rhagaea]] said he would be, they hire him and he tells Echalera to go with him to the training fields across the way, meanwhile Mattis should look for rumors or clues about where the kidnappers may have gone. Echalera and Osarios train for two days before Osarios recommends building up a small warband, earning money completing jobs in towns and picking up another companion, preferably a doctor. Last Osarios heard of a [[Tacteos]] in Tevea village.
